Special Olympics Gibraltar is an accredited programme of Special Olympics Int. which is the largest sports organisation for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and physical disabilities.

Founded in 20th July 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver . T oday serving 181 nations. Special Olympics Gibraltar was founded in 1985 by Annie M. Risso and now provides sports training in 8 official summer sports and 3 official winter sports.

Our mission is to offer sports training, and encourage people with ID to join for thephysical activity , which helps lower the rate of cardiovascular disease and obesity , among other health benefits.

Also, they gain many emotional and psychological benefits, including self confidence, social competence, building greater athletic skills and higher self esteem. All training and competition is provided free of charge, enabling everyone to experience the benefits of Special Olympics that extend well beyond the playing field and encourages families participation.

The sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families and the community . The Special Olympics oath is “Let me win, and if I cannot win, let me be brave in theattempt” .

This is the ethos that all athletes work from to reach competitive level. We are a non-profit organisation run by trained volunteers.
